The Russian LGBT Network and Antidiscrimination Center Memorial prepared Alternative information on Russia’s implementation of the UN Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women. The report covers violation of women’s labor rights; persecution of female activists; discrimination of female members of vulnerable groups - female migrants, women from traditional and Muslim communities, and LBT women.
The Report Russia’s Compliance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights was prepared by a coalition of civil society organizations in response to the Committee's call for information with regard to the 8th periodic report by the Russian Federation.
This report presents an analysis of the data collected through an online survey aimed at identifying and recording cases of violence and discrimination against LGBTQ+ people in Russia. A total of 6.958 online questionnaires were completed.
This report prepared by Article 19 analyses public discourses on LGBT issues in Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Ukraine. Issues of “hate speech” are found to be widespread across all five countries in the media, online and propagated by influential public figures, including politicians. Our research finds widespread violence, discrimination and hostility against LGBT people in the region which reinforces and exacerbates existing prejudices.
In the course of the monitoring program implementation in 2016-2017 Russian LGBT Network has recorded 366 personal cases containing evidence of discrimination and violence towards LGBT people in Russia. Collected data during the monitoring program cannot be considered exhaustive, since a lot of LGBT people are not aware of the monitoring, and among those who know about this program there are only few who are willing to talk about the discrimination that’s happened to them. As a matter of fact, LGBT people face violence and human rights abuse much more often than the monitoring statistics reflects.

That I should rather be a terrorist, than a faggot” is based on testimonies of people from Chechnya who were persecuted, illegally detained, and tortured. In this report, the Russian LGBT Network reveals the factual timeline of this crime against humanity and disentangles the details of the LGBT persecution in Chechnya. Based on testimonial evidence, the report underscores the brutality of the tortures and the Chechen authorities’ involvement in criminal activities against LGBT people.

“Monitoring report of discrimination and violence based on SOGI in Russia in 2015” conducted in 9 cites all across the country, monitored 284 cases of violence and discrimination. The report shows that the main problems the Russian LGBT community faced in 2015 were physical violence, violation of labor rights, interference with the right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression, domestic violence and violation of parental rights.
Hate crimes motivated by victim’s gender identity or sexual orientation committed in Russian Federation in 2014. The report was prepared in cooperation with LGBT Initiative Group Coming Out for the OSCE submission, and covers 31 cases of hate crimes and actions of the organized homophobic groups.
Implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights in the Russian Federation: Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Issues Submitted for the 111 session of the Human Rights Committee, Geneva, Switzerland. The submission covers six main problems affected LGBT communities and LGBT human rights defenders in Russia, namely: (1) violence against LGBT persons and LGBT human rights defenders; (2) hate speech and manifestations of intolerance and prejudice by public officials, religious leaders and in the media; (3) infringement of the right to freedom of assembly and association; (4) legislation prohibiting so-called “homosexual propaganda”, its implementation and effects; (5) problems in legal recognition of transgender persons’ gender identity; and (6) persecution of LGBT and anti-discrimination activists under the law on “foreign agents.”
